New Transfer Student Information for Fall 2022
School of Social Sciences | Undergraduate Student Affairs Office

Welcome to UCI and the School of Social Sciences!
As an incoming transfer student, you currently have a HOLD on your record. Don't worry - this is normal! The hold will be removed once you have
completed your mandatory transfer advising with our office this Summer.
Below you will find information on how to complete your new student advising and enroll
in your Fall classes.
Step 1: Complete the 2022 Transfer Pre-Advising Survey
In order to ensure that you are advised properly this Summer and in preparation for
your Fall enrollment, we ask that you provide us with some background information
on your academic history, as well as unofficial transcripts from each community college
or 4 year university you have previously attended. If you already have a copy of your
UC IGETC or UC Reciprocity letter, we recommend that you provide that as well. When
uploading your unofficial transcripts, please name your files in the following way:

2022 Transfer Pre-Advising Survey
Note: You will need to be logged into your UCI Google account in order to access this form!
If you have not yet activated your UCINetID and set up your UCI Google account, you can find more information on how to do that under the “Getting Started” section of our New Student page.
The original deadline to submit the Pre-Advising Survey was June 6th, and the extended deadline was July 4th. If you are completing this form after both of these deadlines, please note that your submission is considered to be LATE, and we will not be assisting you with your transfer evaluation or Fall course registration until mid-to-late August.
Step 2: Complete Academic Advising
Students who complete the Transfer Pre-Advising Survey by the June 6th deadline will be sent information on how to complete their academic advising on June 7th.
Social Sciences will be providing students with limited in-person advising sessions (on a first-come, first-serve basis), as well as a remote advising option for those that prefer to complete their academic advising online (or for those who are not able to secure a spot in an in-person session). Students who submit the Transfer Pre-Advising Survey after the June 6th deadline will not have the option for in-person advising, and will automatically be added to our remote advising group.
All incoming transfer students will be required to complete our Social Sciences Transfer Advising course online through the Canvas learning platform as part of their summer advising. This course is mandatory no matter which advising option you choose. Information on how to access this Canvas course will be provided to students in the June 7th academic advising email.
LATE students will receive their Canvas information (and a deadline for completing their modules) from our office towards the middle or end of July.
More information on both the in-person and remote advising options is provided below:
Option 1: In-Person Advising (all sessions closed)

More Information
Social Sciences will be offering limited in-person academic advising for new transfer students between June 14 - June 30. In-person advising sessions will roughly 2 hours long, and will be held on-campus at UCI with our academic advisors, who will assist students with enrollment into their Fall courses. Registration for these in-person advising sessions will be on a first-come, first-serve basis, and will only be available to students who submitted the Transfer Pre-Advising Survey prior to the June 6th deadline.
Sessions will be held from 10:00am - 1:00pm in Social and Behavioral Sciences Gateway (SBSG) 1241. Sessions will be available by major on the following dates:
Economics
Tuesday, June 14th
Thursday, June 23rd
Psychology (B.A. & B.S.)
Wednesday, June 15th
Tuesday, June 28th
Sociology
Thursday, June 16th
Wednesday, June 29th
International Studies
Tuesday, June 21st
Political Science
Wednesday, June 22nd
Anthropology, Language Science,
Social Policy & Public Service, and Chicano/Latino Studies
Thursday, June 30th
The deadline to register for an in-person advising session will be June 10th at 12pm PST.Each session will be capped at 30 students. Once the session is full, the registration form will be closed, and students who are not able to sign up will be included in our remote advising group. Confirmation emails will be sent to students who have successfully registered with additional information for their in-person session, including directions to campus and parking information. Students who have not received a confirmation email from our office will NOT be permitted to attend the session!
Students attending an in-person advising session will be required to complete their Canvas course prior to the date of their session. Failure to complete all Canvas modules prior to your session date may result in a delay in your Fall enrollment!
**Be advised that masks will be REQUIRED for all in-person advising sessions. Our office will have masks available for students who do not bring their own**
Option 2: Remote Advising
Social Sciences is providing an online academic advising option for students who wish to complete their new student advising remotely, or for those students who are not able to register for an in-person advising session. All students who submit the Transfer Pre-Advising Survey after the initial June 6th deadline will be completing their advising online through this remote option.
The deadline for remote advising students who submitted their Pre-Advising Survey before July 4th to complete their Canvas modules is July 8th.
Beginning the week of July 18th, students who have completed all of their Canvas modules by the July 8th deadline will have their HOLD removed and be sent a Fall course registration email from one of our academic advisors. This email will be sent to your UCI student email address, and will contain a degree check sheet for your major with an evaluation of your transfer coursework, as well as course suggestions for Fall quarter. Once you receive this email, you are free to enroll in your Fall courses on your own!
LATE students who submitted their Pre-Advising Survey after the July 4th deadline will be contacted with their Fall course registration information in mid-to-late August.
Please note: if you don't receive your Fall registration email right away, don't panic! Our advisors have to evaluate and provide course recommendations for hundreds of new transfer students, so it can take some time for us to get emails out to everyone. We do reserve seats in all of our classes for incoming students, so even if you get your registration email a little bit later (or if you are in the late group that will receive their advising in August) there will still be classes available for you to enroll in throughout the Summer!
Zoom Drop-In Hours: Our advisors and peer advisors will be providing drop-in hours on Zoom for remote advising students. These drop-in hours will be your opportunity to speak with an advisor or peer advisors after you have received your Fall course registration email and signed up for your classes. More information on the dates and times for the drop-in hours (as well as information on how to enter the Zoom room) will be provided to you in your Fall course registration email.
