New Transfer Student Information for Fall 2025

School of Social Sciences  |  Undergraduate Student Affairs Office

Peers at Aldrich Park

Welcome to UCI and the School of Social Sciences!

As an incoming transfer student, you currently have a HOLD on your record. Don't worry - this is normal! The hold will be removed once you have completed your mandatory transfer advising with our office this Summer.

Incoming transfer students who have submitted a positive SIR will begin receiving emails from our office with instructions for completing their Summer advising and Fall course registration sometime in mid-May. These emails will be sent to the address used in your UC Application, so pelase make sure you are checking that inbox regularly to ensure you are completing all the necessary steps to get you set up for Fall quarter and avoid missing any important deadlines!

You can also review each of the steps needed to complete your transfer advising here on our website.

Step 1: Complete the 2025 Transfer Pre-Advising Evaluation

To ensure that you are advised properly this Summer and in preparation for your Fall enrollment, we ask that you provide us with some background information on your academic history, as well as unofficial transcripts from each community college and/or 4-year university you have previously attended. If you already have a copy of your UC IGETC or UC Reciprocity letter, we recommend that you provide that as well. When uploading your unofficial transcripts, please name your files in the following way: Last Name_First Name_College Name

2025 Transfer Pre-Advising Evaluation

Note: You will need to be logged into your UCI Google account to access this form! If you have not yet activated your UCINetID and set up your UCI Google account, you can find more information on how to do that under the “Getting Started” section of our New Student Information page.

The deadline to submit the Pre-Advising Evaluation is Thursday, June 5th at 5pm PT.

Step 2: Complete Academic Advising

Students who complete the Transfer Pre-Advising Evaluation by the June 5th deadline will receive an email on June 6th with details on how to register to complete their academic advising and Fall enrollment. These emails will be sent to your UCI student email, so please make sure you are checking it regularly!

In this email, students will be given two options for completing their transfer advising:

    • In-person advising on-campus at one of our limited sessions between June 16th - July 2nd
    • Online advising via email in mid-July

All incoming transfer students will also be required to complete our Social Sciences Transfer Advising course online through the Canvas learning platform as part of their summer advising. This course is mandatory. Information on how to access this Canvas course is included in the June 7th advising registration email.

    • The Canvas completion deadline for students attending an in-person advising session is the day before your session.
    • The Canvas completion deadline for students who are participating in the online email advising option is July 11th.

Information on both the in-person and online email advising options available to students can be found below:

Option 1: In-Person Advising

Social Sciences will be offering limited in-person academic advising for new transfer students between June 16th - July 2nd . In-person advising sessions will be roughly 2 hours long and will be held on-campus at UCI with our academic advisors, who will assist students with enrollment into their Fall courses. Registration for these in-person advising sessions will be on a first-come, first-serve basis, and will only be available to students who submitted the Transfer Pre-Advising Evaluation prior to the June 5th deadline.

Sessions will be held in Social and Behavioral Sciences Gateway (SBSG) 1241. Morning sessions will run from 10am - 12pm and afternoon sessions will run from 1:30pm - 3:30pm. Sessions will be available by major on the following dates:

Thursday, June 26th (10am - 12pm)

Social Policy & Public Service, and Chicano/Latino Studies

Tuesday, July 1st (10am - 12pm)

Registration for In-Person Advising will close on Thursday, June 12th at 5pm.

Each session will be capped at 30 students. Once the session is full, the registration form will be closed, and students who are not able to sign up will be included in our remote advising group. Confirmation emails will be sent to students who have successfully registered with additional information for their in-person session, including directions to campus and parking information. Students who have not received a confirmation email from our office will NOT be permitted to attend the session!

Students attending an in-person advising session will be required to complete their Canvas course prior to the date of their session. Failure to complete all Canvas modules prior to your session date may result in a cancellation of your registration and you will be moved to the online email advising option.

Prior to the date of your session, we may ask for updated grades on your transfer conditioned courses. If we do not receive the requested updated grades, or if you do not meet the minimum grade requirement in one or more of your transfer conditioned courses, we will cancel your registration for the in-person session.

Note: in-person sessions are subject to cancellation due to low enrollment.

Option 2: Online Email Advising

Social Sciences is providing an online academic advising option for students who wish to complete their new student advising remotely, or for those students who are not able to register for an in-person advising session. Online advising is done through email; individual Zoom appointments are NOT available via the remote advising option. If you are looking for detailed, 1-on-1 guidance from an advisor on your major requirements and Fall enrollment, we strongly recommend that you attend one of the in-person sessions for your major!

All students who submit the Transfer Pre-Advising Evaluation after the initial June 5th deadline will be completing their advising online through this email option.

Students participating in online email advising who have completed all their Canvas modules by the July 11th deadline will have their HOLD removed and be sent a Fall course registration email from one of our academic advisors between July 15th - 22nd. This email will be sent to your UCI student email address and will contain a degree check sheet for your major with an evaluation of your transfer coursework, as well as personalized course recommendations for Fall quarter. Once you receive this email, you are free to enroll in your Fall courses on your own!

Note: We have an incoming transfer class of about 700 students, so it will take us time to review Canvas course completion and contact each student with their individual course recommendations. Please be respectful and give us time to reach out to you. We have reserved seats in most of our classes for incoming students, so there won't be a rush for you to enroll- you aren't competing with current students or with incoming students outside of Social Sciences for space in our classes.

Zoom Drop-In Sessions: Drop-in advising sessions on Zoom will be made available towards the end of July through early August to studetns completing online email advising with us this Summer. More information on these sessions (including dates and times) as well as a link to the Zoom room will be included in the Fall course registration email you receive from our office.
