Transfer Student Academic Advising Sessions
Welcome to UC Irvine and the School of Social Sciences!
As an incoming transfer student, you currently have a HOLD on your record. Don't worry - this is normal! The hold will be removed during your summer academic advising session.
SUMMER ACADEMIC ADVISING SESSIONS
- Attendance is mandatory.
- Conducted by major in a small group setting.
- Includes a presentation led by an academic advisor.
- Includes individual advising with an academic advisor (one-on-one).
- The hold on your record will be lifted and you will enroll into Fall Quarter courses!
- You must request a reservation in advance.
- You will be assigned a session after your reservation request is reviewed.
*Please note: Due to the high volume of students our school admits, individual appointments are not available for the summer. Your individual advising takes place during your academic advising session.
HOW TO MAKE A RESERVATION
- Click on your admitted major below to review the reservation request form and gather the information requested.
- Save an electronic copy of ALL your unofficial transcripts (PDF preferred).
- Complete the online reservation request form fully (you cannot save mid-entry).
- Wait for a confirmation email with your assigned transfer advising session date.
You will receive a confirmation email from firstname.lastname@example.org within 7-10 working days. Please keep a copy of your confirmation email. On the day of each session, only students who received a confirmation email for that session will be permitted to attend. We thank you in advance for your understanding if you are not assigned your preferred session date.
*** ALL IN-PERSON ADVISING DATES HAVE PASSED. You MUST request
alternate advising through this form: EXCEPTION REQUEST FORM. ***
Your academic hold will not be removed until you complete alternate advising.
ADVISING SESSION DATES BY MAJOR
All academic advising sessions will be held in Social & Behavioral Sciences Gateway (SBSG), Room 1241. Sessions are from 10:00AM-1:00PM (3 hours). You must be present for the entire session. We recommend arriving at least 30 minutes early. Late arrivals are NOT accommodated. Students must have a confirmation for the session they attend. Please be prepared to pay for parking. An all day parking permit is $10.
If you do not complete academic advising, your hold WILL NOT be removed and you WILL NOT be able to enroll into Fall Quarter courses.
NOT ABLE TO ATTEND AN ADVISING SESSION LISTED ABOVE?
If you are unable to attend any of the session dates for your major, please fill out this EXCEPTION REQUEST FORM.
If approved, we will provide you with an alternate academic advising method. You should ONLY fill out this request form if you truly cannot attend an in-person session. For this alternate advising, you will be required to review the presentation given during the in-person session and enroll in your courses on your own. You will be emailed the final part of your alternate advising in mid to late August, when your academic hold will be removed. You will not be able to enroll into courses until this time.
OPTIONAL UCI ORIENTATION PROGRAMS FOR TRANSFER STUDENTS
UCI offers OPTIONAL orientation programs for new transfer students. These programs DO NOT PROVIDE academic advising (and your hold will not be removed if you attend them). You can find more information about these optional orientation programs, mini-Transfer Student Parent Orientation Program (mini-TSPOP) and Transfer Student Parent Orientation Program (T-SPOP), here: https://www.orientation.uci.edu/
Please also review the New Student Handbook, where you can learn more about UCI, the many resources available to you, and how to make the most of your time here as an undergraduate.
Please send us an email at email@example.com with your full name, UCI ID#, and your questions! All emails are answered by a full-time academic advisor.
