Transfer Student Academic Advising Sessions

Welcome to UC Irvine and the School of Social Sciences!

As an incoming transfer student, you currently have a HOLD on your record. Don't worry - this is normal! The hold will be removed during your summer academic advising session.

 

SUMMER ACADEMIC ADVISING SESSIONS

• Attendance is mandatory.
• Conducted by major in a small group setting.
• Includes a presentation led by an academic advisor.
• Includes individual advising with an academic advisor (one-on-one).
• The hold on your record will be lifted and you will enroll into Fall Quarter courses!
• You must request a reservation in advance.
• You will be assigned a session after your reservation request is reviewed.

*Please note: Due to the high volume of students our school admits, individual appointments are not available for the summer. Your individual advising takes place during your academic advising session.

 

HOW TO MAKE A RESERVATION

1. Click on your admitted major below to review the reservation request form and gather the information requested.
2. Save an electronic copy of ALL your unofficial transcripts (PDF preferred).
3. Complete the online reservation request form fully (you cannot save mid-entry).
4. Wait for a confirmation email with your assigned transfer advising session date.

You will receive a confirmation email from transferadmit@socsci.uci.edu within  7-10 working days. Please keep a copy of your confirmation email. On the day of each session, only students who received a confirmation email for that session will be permitted to attend. We thank you in advance for your understanding if you are not assigned your preferred session date.

Your academic hold will not be removed until you complete alternate advising.

 

ADVISING SESSION DATES BY MAJOR

All academic advising sessions will be held in Social & Behavioral Sciences Gateway (SBSG), Room 1241. Sessions are from 10:00AM-1:00PM (3 hours). You must be present for the entire session. We recommend arriving at least 30 minutes early. Late arrivals are NOT accommodated. Students must have a confirmation for the session they attend. Please be prepared to pay for parking. An all day parking permit is $10.

 

 

OPTIONAL UCI ORIENTATION PROGRAMS FOR TRANSFER STUDENTS 

UCI offers OPTIONAL orientation programs for new transfer students. These programs DO NOT PROVIDE academic advising (and your hold will not be removed if you attend them).
