New Transfer Student Academic Advising

School of Social Sciences  |  Undergraduate Student Affairs Office

As an incoming transfer student, you currently have a HOLD on your record. Don't worry - this is normal! The hold will be removed once you have completed all steps of your mandatory transfer advising throughout the Summer.

Step 1: Please fill out the Registration Form. (Priority was given to those who completed this step by June 15th)

Step 2: Activate your UCINetID and UCI email address. All information regarding next steps for completing your online academic advising will be sent to your UCI email address only. If you have not yet activated your UCINetID and UCI email address, you may do so here:

Step 3: If Step 1 is completed, you will be emailed instructions on completing the School of Social Sciences Transfer Student Canvas advising modules. An email invitation will be sent to your UCI email address. Please accept and complete your 4 required Canvas modules for this academic advising course. Your Canvas modules include an overview of degree requirements, academic policies and procedures, instructions on navigate Schedule of Classes (WebSOC) and how to enroll (WebReg), in additional to other important information to help you be successful as a UCI student! Please keep in mind that this information will ONLY be sent to your UCI student email address (activate this in Step 2).

Step 4: By now, you are an expert! Once your Canvas advising modules and quizzes are successfully completed, your academic hold will be removed and you will be able to enroll in your Fall courses. An academic advisor will provide you with an evaluation of your courses completed in your major "degree check," as well as course suggestions for Fall Quarter via email. Your patience is appreciated. Please allow 1-3 business days to receive the email once you have completed all 4 required modules. Thank you.

Please Note: Each step would first need to be completed before you may move onto the next step.

*Fall 2020 Transfer students who submitted their Registration Form after the June 15th deadline will be emailed to their UCI email address (step 2) on how to proceed to Step 3 in late August. In the meantime, you can activate your UCI email address and review the online Schedule of Classes. There will be options of courses to enroll in for Fall Quarter, since courses in the School of Social Sciences are restricted to "majors only," "school majors only," and "new only" until September 3rd.

Transfer Student Panels and Q+A with our Peer Academic Advisors (PAAs)

They briefly went over major requirements and shared their experiences regarding remote learning, adjusting to UCI as a transfer student, how to get involved and how to make the most of your time at UCI! The Zoom sessions have ended and we will be posting the recordings below soon! Stay tuned!
