New Transfer Student Academic Advising

Welcome to UCI and the School of Social Sciences!

As an incoming Spring 2016 transfer student, you currently have a HOLD on your record from the School of Social Sciences. The hold will be lifted once academic advising has been completed. 

STEP 1: Find the academic advising presentation for your admitted major below. Each presentation is approximately 35-40 minutes in length. It is best viewed on a desktop, laptop, or tablet. Please watch the entire presentation, take notes, and pay close attention to the information that is covered, as there will be a quiz at the end of the presentation. You may pause or replay the videos as needed. Students are responsible for all of the information covered in this presentation.

STEP 2: Once you have watched the online academic advising presentation for your major and successfully passed the quiz, please send a screenshot, photo, etc as proof of completion to our office at socsci@uci.edu. The email subject should be "TRANSFER STUDENT ADVISING COMPLETE" and in the email please include your full name, UCI ID#, and proof of completion. Within 3 business days, you will receive an email with a "degree check," which is an evaluation of the work you completed so far, class suggestions for Spring 2016, and your HOLD from Social Sciences will be removed.

STEP 3: Enroll in your Spring 2016 classes when your enrollment window opens! Your enrollment window will open on Friday, February 26th at 8:00AM. Please note that we highly recommend that you enroll in 12 quarter units for your first quarter here at UCI (full-time status).

STEP 4:  Pay your Spring Quarter fees. You can access your Zot Account here: https://zotaccount.uci.edu/. The fee deadline is by March 15th at 4:00PM. Failure to pay fees by this deadline will result in all courses being dropped.

STEP 5: Optional: Call our office at 949-824-6803 beginning March 7th to schedule an appointment with a full-time academic counselor.

STEP 6: Begin Spring Quarter at UCI! Instruction begins on Monday, March 28th!

 

Special Note about your IGETC Certification:

If you are completing IGETC (for community college transfers only), you must provide our office with an official IGETC certification. Speak to your counselor at your community college to verify your IGETC status and have your official IGETC certification sent to our office before the end of Spring Quarter. IGETC must be completed prior to matriculation to UCI or you will be held responsible for completing UCI General Education Requirements.

If you are unable to complete full UC-IGETC prior to transfer, you MUST file an OFFICIAL Partial IGETC with our office by the Spring Quarter. You should speak with your community college about a Partial IGETC. Students with a Partial IGETC will be given options on how to complete it within the first year of matriculation to UCI. Failure to have a partial IGETC on file will result in you having to complete the required UCI General Education Requirements.
